School Report Card
Letter from the Principal
Dear Families,
We provide regular updates to you about your student’s academic progress through report cards and communication from your child’s teacher. Once a year, we also share information about our school’s overall performance through the North Carolina School Report Card.
This Report Card includes important information about school and student performance, class sizes, attendance, school safety, instructional resources, and teacher quality. It also outlines how our school performed compared to district and state data. NC Report Card information is available for every school in the state and helps families stay informed about how schools are performing across North Carolina.
We are proud to share that during the 2024–2025 school year, Hemby Bridge Elementary maintained our overall school performance grade of a “B.” This rating reflects the dedication of our staff, the hard work of our students, and the continuous partnership with our families and community. Our students continued to show strong growth and steady proficiency in both reading and math, and we are incredibly proud of their accomplishments.
As we look ahead to the 2025–2026 school year, our focus will be on strengthening literacy instruction through the Science of Reading. This evidence-based approach to reading emphasizes phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension — the building blocks of strong readers. Our staff will continue engaging in professional learning to refine literacy practices, ensuring that every student has the tools and strategies needed to become a confident, successful reader.
While our academic results tell an important part of our story, there is much more to who we are at Hemby Bridge. We are a community of learners dedicated to developing knowledgeable, responsible, and compassionate students who demonstrate the UCPS Portrait of a Graduate skills — collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking, and perseverance. Our teachers continue to design high-quality instruction that meets the diverse needs of all students and fosters curiosity and confidence in learning.
We also continue to embrace technology as a tool for engagement and innovation. Every 3rd–5th grade student has access to a Chromebook, and our K–2 classrooms utilize both iPads and Chromebooks to support early digital literacy. Teachers integrate technology into lessons to promote creativity, collaboration, and deeper understanding.
At Hemby Bridge Elementary, your involvement is essential to our success. We value our partnership with families and encourage you to review our school’s Report Card carefully. Please reach out with any questions, ideas, or feedback — your voice helps us continue growing together as a community.
Thank you for your continued support and for entrusting us with your child’s education. Together, we will continue to build strong readers, problem solvers, and leaders.
Warm regards, Dr. Gina Chisum
Principal, Hemby Bridge Elementary
